India won 368 medals at the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2019 held in Abu Dhabi from March 14–21, making it one of India's strongest performances at the Special Olympics. The Special Olympics World Games are held for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

India has won the maximum number of Olympic gold medals in men's hockey — eight in total — in 1928, 1932, 1936, 1948, 1952, 1956, 1964, and 1980. Six of these were won consecutively from 1928 to 1956, making India the most successful nation in Olympic men's hockey history.

Dipa Karmakar won the gold medal in the vault event at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup in Mersin, Turkey on July 8, 2018, scoring 14.150. This was her first medal in a World Challenge Cup series, coming after a nearly two-year recovery from an ACL injury following the 2016 Rio Olympics where she had finished fourth.

Ramanathan Krishnan was the first Indian player to represent independent India at Wimbledon, competing from the 1950s onward. He reached the Wimbledon semi-finals twice in 1960 and 1961, and in 1954 became the first Asian to win the boys' singles title at Wimbledon.

Sourav Ganguly, former captain of the Indian cricket team, was elected as the 39th President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in October 2019. He served as Indian captain from 2000 to 2005 and is credited with transforming Indian cricket into a competitive global force.
