India has won the maximum number of Olympic gold medals in men's hockey — eight in total — in 1928, 1932, 1936, 1948, 1952, 1956, 1964, and 1980. Six of these were won consecutively from 1928 to 1956, making India the most successful nation in Olympic men's hockey history.
