Article 161 of the Constitution of India grants the Governor of a State the power to grant pardons, reprieves, respites, or remissions of punishment, and to suspend, remit, or commute sentences for offences against laws relating to matters within the state's executive power. This is similar to the President's pardon power under Article 72 but limited to the state level, and is exercised by the Governor on the advice of the state government.
