Mao Tse-Tung propagated the idea of the Cultural Revolution under socialism to purge capitalist and traditional elements from Chinese society and enforce Maoist orthodoxy within the Communist Party. It lasted from 1966 to 1976 and caused widespread upheaval. Marx focused on class struggle and economic aspects of revolution, while Lenin led the Bolshevik Revolution but did not advocate a cultural revolution in this manner.
