Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi announced on June 14, 2022, that the 'Illam Thedi Kalvi' (Education at Doorsteps) scheme would be extended for 6 more months until normalcy returns to school functioning. The scheme was launched by the MK Stalin government to bridge the learning gap caused by school closures during the pandemic, and during a Reading Marathon Summer Session, 17 lakh students from classes 2–8 read 227 crore words in 8.6 lakh hours using the Google Read-Along app.
